Yellow is the color of light, the sun, the stars and yet, it is consistently refused by most homeowners when it comes to renovations. The impact that this color has on people has determined many marketers to exercise caution when utilizing it on ads and websites. As a side note, I also want to mention that even though yellow is unpractical for marketing reasons, this is not the only reason it is left out.
Our hesitation for this color can be explained by the fact that it is often associated with sickness and aging. Well, I want to share my view that not all tones of yellow will lead you to immediately think of the negative implications of the color. In fact, yellow is a very versatile and flexible color that permits you to obtain several interesting effects. In order to prove my point, I will present you with 4 example of how yellow can help you perform a complete makeover of your master bedroom, whether you choose to paint the wall with yellow or bring in yellow furniture into it and more.
1. Yellow floors
While I have to admit, not many homeowners are so daring, one way of making a bedroom brighter and warmer is to install yellow flooring. On the other hand, if you are thinking of a tropical theme for your bedroom, just think about what an impact that the yellow floor will have if you combine it with differently sized green area rugs. On the other hand, if you have a more traditionalist thematic in mind, then light colored wood flooring is exactly what your bedroom needs to feel complete.
In a child’s room, yellow merges extremely well with the rest of the colors and practically, binds the theme altogether. While it is true that you can choose any shade of yellow for the floor, keep in mind that you need a practical flooring solution, since marks will show immediately.
2. Yellow bed accessories
No luxury master bedroom is complete without a little touch of yellow, particularly if you consider installing some long, heavy, white drapes and want to use dark colored furniture. Light tones of yellow on the bed will emphasize the black-white contrast and, irrespective of your furniture arrangement, will make the room look bigger, modern and will create a city-chic atmosphere.
Another alternative that simply cannot do without yellow is the country theme. Here you can be bolder and user brighter yellow bed accessories to go with your porcelain, drapes fixtures and antique wooden furniture. As a side note, adding multiple striped drapes with various shades of yellow will create a feeling of consistency in the bedroom, so I recommend you try it.
3. Yellow walls
In my opinion, if you decided to paint your walls yellow – or they were like that when you moved in – that means you are taking the first step for an amazing design. In other words, yellow is just that kind of color that can help you achieve any theme you have in mind, regardless of the tone you choose. Since light yellow shades are easier to work with, here are some of my ideas about what you can do with bright, solid and vivid yellow.
In the eventuality that you need to work with bright yellow, then a cost effective solution would be to reduce the impact by attaching strips of grey or blue. If money is not a problem to you, then an even better idea is to hire a professional to paint motifs on the walls. In regards to my last suggestion, I want to highlight the fact that imagination is your only limit. For instance, if you want a garden theme, then the yellow can help you create beautiful sunflowers facing a sunset.
4. Yellow bookcase
If you are among the few lucky people to enjoy the comfort of an extra-large bedroom that means you have access to more decorating ideas that you can work with. Since the bedroom is your private and intimate space – mostly for you to enjoy – one suggestion is to get a bookcase in there where you can place your collection of books, porcelain, maritime objects find, etc.
What better ways to emphasize the pieces from your collection than with a dab of yellow? Don’t forget that yellow comes in a variety of shades and can create incredible contrast with your collectibles. At the same time, if you think that yellow is not enough to emphasize your collection, then you can highlight them by installing the adequate lighting fixtures.
